Anyone have any experience with this round for coyote, fox and the like?

Its a good size for called in critters. They're are some pretty hot loads out there now with hollow points that tip em' over pretty quick.
I use to call them in close out west (WA.), but back east here they're tougher. I only shoot open sights so I limit my shots to within around 40yds.. I'm saving up for a .243 w/scope. ![]() Bill Stahl

The 22 mag is great for us taxidermists! I hate when customers show up with yotes and foxes shot with slugs
I just got a yote the other day shot in the neck with a 22 mag, tiny entrance hole, no exit, beautiful. However I have no idea about effective range. 100 yards maybe?

Ya thats what I figured to pretty light. I have a 223 and I am wanting to save on pelt damage, any one tried hollow points for the 223?

Don't own a 223 either, my buddy just custome built a 223 ar-15. Hasn't shot it yet. I'll let you know how he makes out. If I lived in an area where long range varmint shooting was a legitimate option, I'd invest in a .204. Those rifles seem pretty sick when it comes to flatness and long distance kill ability. I know guys killing yotes with them out to 5-600 yards. The recoil is minimal so you can watch the impact if you're into that. Seems like a bad-ass varmint caliber.

Not looking at long range to much mostly wanting to back up the shotgun and get a little better range for the otter.

Try military surplus .223 stuff in FMJ. I used that for years when I helped tend sheep in the desert for my dads friend. No pelt damage, and they die plenty quick. You get all the benefits of a smaller less frangible round with all the range of a centerfire.

.22 mag is a great round for coyotes. I've got a 6x18 on mine and I have dropped 'em as far as 150yds. If you want to use a .223, use FMJ ammo, small hole in and a small hole out.

Maybe try the .223 FMJ. Cepending on the twist go with the lightest bullet you can accurately shoot. BTW...if you quit shooting the poor otters in the face then the back of thier skull would not explode!
